Ripper Rugby

Every Friday before lunch room 19 goes to ripper rugby. On our first day of ripper rugby (tag) our instructor asked if any of us knew how to play tag or touch we said yes. So instead of him teaching us some skills we went straight to game.

My groups team leader was Jonty and we were the black team, there were three teams so one team had to stay off until a team had got two tries. We versed the white team, in the first round of games I got one try but the other team had got two, so we had to go off. Then they lost so we came back on.

When I finally got the ball I stepped Ervin, span past Tracey and Cruz and ran for the goal line I run as fast as I could because I was running from my goal line to theirs but luckily I got the run away try, I was so happy and relived because I thought I was going to get tagged.

When we left I wanted to play again. I really can't wait until this Friday.

The Year 7&8 Social

It was a quiet Thursday night and tonight was the big night. It was the year 7&8 SOCIAL!!!The theme for the social was 'Glow In The Dark'. As I was getting ready for social I was feeling really excited and nervous at the same time because this is the first time that I've ever been to a social.

It was finally time to go. When I walked into the school grounds I saw my friend

Cael, we said hi and started going towards the hall. I gave my ticket to the people at the door and went inside. There were lights flashing everywhere, people were wearing glow sticks around their wrists and necks. Everyone was dancing to the music, then the people running it said it was time for the dougie competition.

Mostly the boys started to dougie, jerk and shuffle. Only about 4 girls dougied, The person who won the dougie competition was De'Vyne.

When everyone was getting into the music Tanielu said it was time for suppa. As soon as everyone ate their sausages and drank they drinks we went back into the hall. When it came to an end everyone was feeling sad that we couldn't stay any longer.

That was a very cool social. I can't wait till next year, I hope the next one will be as good as this one.

Tennis

This term we have been learning how to play tennis. Our instructor taught us two ways to hit the ball, they were called forehand and backhand. We had to pair up, Denim was my partner. First, one of us had to throw the ball just in front of you, while the other person had to hit the ball back.

After we had done that 6 people had to stand in a line and we played a game called king of the court. I was king about 4 times. When we packed up at the end of the session everyone was tired. I couldn't wait untill next week.

I am making a two headed alien, one head is smart while the other head is not as smart. I have nearly finished my alien. Hopefully I will post my finished project on my blog soon.

Thanks to Cruz and Feki for checking my work.

Solar System Questions

Mr Harris (teacher)gave my class two questions about the Solar System. I hope this following information helped you know a bit about the Moons, the Earth and the Sun ENJOY!

Is There Only One Moon In The Solar System?
No, there are about 139 moons in the solar system. Earth has 1, Mars has 2, Jupiter has 62 which is the largest number of moons, coming in second is Saturn with 33 moons. Uranus 22, Neptune 13, Pluto 1, Mercury and Venus have no moons at all.

Does The Sun Spin Around The Earth or The Earth Spin Around The Sun?
The Earth rotates around the Sun. Earth is rotating around the sun because of its gravitational pull.

Thanks to Rachael for checking my work.

Basketball

My dream is to play basketball, cause ever since my uncle taught me how to play (which was a very long time ago) I desperately wanted to have a game of basketball. And my dream has finally come true.

My mum signed me up for basketball. So every Wednesday after school I play. My team's name is Lakers! Our main strip is green and our alternative strip is white. In my team there are 3 girls and 3 boys. We had our first game last week, it was really good but unfortunately we lost.

I really like my team because they are really cool, they like to play basketball and are alright at it, also their very supportive and nice.

Oh, I totally forgot YES! Today is Wednesday the 9th November and you know what that means. I can't wait for my game tonight.

My Dream Outta This World Holiday

‘Brring...’ screamed the alarm. I tried to ignore it. I wanted to stay in my dream. My dream outta this world Holiday.

My dream was about Mars. Mars is the seventh largest planet also is the fourth planet from the sun. Mars is a very hard planet to spot using telescopes even using the massive ones, they say it’s to small.

Mars is called ‘The Red Planet’ because it has a reddish appearance from Earth. The planet Mars is not a pleasant place to live. Early in its history, Mars was much more like Earth.
The two moons of Mars are, Phobos and Deimos.

Their were several spacecrafts that have been to Mars. The first spacecraft to visit Mars was the Mariner 4 in 1965. In 1997 the Mars Pathfinder successfully landed on Mars.

Georgia

This term we have been learning about the country Georgia, and had fun doing it.

“Who is a famous person in Georgia?” asked Eduard Shevardnadze.“Joesph Stalin,” I replied.“That is right,” He said.“What are their local delicacies?” He asked.I answered, “Peaches are Georgia’s local delicacies.”“Correct!” Eduard replied.
Eduard asked, “Where is Georgia located Jarna?”
I anxiously said, “Southwestern Asia.”
“Good."“Who is Georgia’s key player for their Georgian rugby team?”“My answer is Malkhaz Urjukashvvill.”“The colour of their main stripe for their team is....”“ Red,” I quickly replied.
“True or False, is red and white the Georgian team alternative stripe?”
I said, “Is it True?”He replied, “Correct!” “Who are Georgia’s neighbouring countries?”
“Mr. Shevardnadze, is the correct answer Turkey and Russia?”
“Yes, well done! You have got all of the questions right! That is just spectacular Jarna, great work!”
“Thank you, it has been an honour talking to you and answering questions about your country.”

Team 5 Silly Sports Day

It was a beautiful day on Tuesday 23 August. Cause today was team fives 'Silly Sports Day!' As we got down to the bottom field all the teachers started setting up thier activities.

The first activity we did was Mr Harris's challenge. We had to find a partner and strap one of our legs to each other and walk with a spoon with a ball in hand. You had to walk to the otherside and back to win. As my partner and I started we were going well untill she fell over and then she gave up just like that. Samson and a few more people won and they challenged each other. After that we moved on to the next activity.

We moved on to Mrs Nua's challenge. Her challenge was a water challenge and I could tell this was going to be cool. As we got in to our teams Mrs Nua told us the rules. In my team was Sione, Jordan, Aliza, Denim, Aidan and I. "Go," shouted Mrs Nua, our team quickly tried to get the water into the other bucket. The team with the red bucket won the first challenge. In the second one we tried to get it into the bucket as fast as we could, but then as Jordan ran up to the front of the line he slipped and broke our bucket everyone including himself started laughing. Then we carried on.

As we got to Mrs laungitupo's activity she straight away gave us a band. I was in the red band group we had a good team but the blue team had all the good athletes in it so we knew there was going to be a challenge. We lost our game against the blue team and I'm not sure if we lost, drew or won against the yellow team.

Arriving to the last activity which was Miss Tito's. Her challenge was to fling a ball with a big sling shot it into a hoop if you got it to land inside the pink hoop you would get 100 points for your class. we had tried to get a ball to land into the pink hoop but we failed. Ms Tito had a go and she had to try to hit Ms V and she did, it looked really funny. At the end of the day it was really fun, I hope we have another one real soon because I enjoyed that a lot.

Taking Our Net Books Home

On Wednesday the 17 of August I was so excited because today was the big day. As I got to school I thought I can’t wait till school finishes because we can take our ‘NET BOOKS HOME!!!’

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 “Diiiiiiiiii ring, Diiiiiiiiii ring,” yes the bell has rung. saying good bye to my teacher I rushed out of the street and off to my house to remind my dad about tonight. Arriving at school once again I was getting closer and closer to taking my net book home.

Talking to my friends I noticed that all the parents are in their childs classroom except my dad and Ms Teleso. So I quickly walked to my dad and Ms Teleso and said, “Come in the classroom,” my dad replied, “ I know I need a pen,” so I went into the classroom and got them a pen and pencil.

As they finished the paper it was our turn. We gave the papers and got our contract and left. I got home and got strait on to my net book and I was really happy.

Thanks to Jordan who checked my work.

"Where In The World Is Korea?"

The Brumbies were given a number of names of rugby-playing nations of the world. These were some of the nations that are recognised by the
world governing body of Rugby Union, the International Rugby Board (IRB), as member unions but did not qualify for RWC 2011.

We divided them up amongst our team. I was given the nations listed b
elow:
This is what I found -

“Korea”
1. Korea’s national flag.

2. The continent that Korea is located in Asia

3. Seoul, Pyongyang is the capital of Korea.
4. The population of Korea is 24,457,492.

5. Korea’s most popular sports are figure skating and swimming.

I have decided to study Korea for our Immersion task.

"Where The Heck is Remuera?"

Different Auckland town centres have adopted Rugby teams from countries that qualified for the World Cup. I found out information about :
The location in Auckland;
Something special about this place;
A 'potted' history of the place; If it has it's own symbol of some sort.(If we couldn't find a symbol we chose a picture that told more about the place).
Remuera is hosting Scotland for the RWC.
Remuera is a place found in Auckland in the North Island of New Zealand. The suburb extends from Hobson Bay and the Orakei Basin.
Remuera is shown by the symbol to south-east of Auckland city centre..

Remuera has had a long history of human occupation, starting back in the early 14th century when the Maoris came to the area. They named the place O-hine-rangi - the
place of Hinerangi (girl of the sky).

The building to the right use to be Remuera’s first fire station.

Keep Your Eye On The Ball

We are using the nations of the 2011 Rugby World Cup as our inquiry path.

For this unit we are in one of four teams: Brumbies, Force, Rebels, Stormers. My team is Brumbies

There will be a number of tasks for us to navigate to achieve our goal of an excellent result in this unit. There are a mixture of individual and team tasks to be completed. The main task that will show our learning in this unit will be a Hyperstudio presentation about one of the countries in the World Cup competition.

I don't really think of the rugby world cup that much because rugby's not my kind of sport. But I hope Samoa or New Zealand wins the world cup.

Furniture For The Street

(To be continued.........->)

Hi my name is Jarna and I'm in room 19, for the past few weeks we have been making prototypes of furniture designs for the street. Everyone in our class has worked hard on their design, I’m developing a chair that is made of different types of triangles.

First we did a bit of research on different furniture designs so we had an idea how to start on our drawing of a piece of furniture

we had to draw our design on a piece of paper so we have an idea how to make it. Then we had to bring anything that is cardboard like cardboard boxes, toilet paper rolls, etc. only a couple of people brought cardboard including me.

Next we started to make our models with cardboard. After we finished that we paper mached them which took a bit of time because you have to do many layers. Finally we painted our furniture, I painted mine white. But then Mr Harris said I had some little noticeable holes on my furniture so I had to fill it with a thing called gib filler.

I am so very proud of my furniture design because I have worked hard on it. I really hope I can finish it by the end of term 2 so I can take it home to my family cause I know they would be proud of me.

Alfred J. Gross - Walkie Talkie

In 1938 Alfred J Gross invented the first walkie talkie. The U.S. Government kept this communication system classified (secret) until 1976.

Gross was born in 1918, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. He began his life-long romance with wireless communications at age nine during a cruise on Lake Erie. While exploring the ship, Gross met the radio operator and was invited into the radio room to listen to the transmission. The sound of wireless telegraphy fascinated him so much that he begged his parents to buy him a crystal set, an early radio.

He was fabricating his own metal radio chassis in a metal working class at age fifteen. A year later he earned his amateur operator's license. He was now a ham radio operator.

After Gross invented the walkie talkie he created a two-way air-to-ground communication system in 1941, which was used in the Second World War. The nickname for the ground device, “Joan,” communicated over radio waves. Gross continued to develop and patent various cordless and portable telephonic devices through the 1960s.

Alfred J. Gross’s invention helps many people including police, St John’s ambulance service, etc.., because if people get hurt or their in danger they can call for help and back up. His invention was the forerunner of today’s mobile phones. If Gross didn’t go on that cruise on Lake Eire, we would not have walkie talkies now.

Starting My Story with a Exciting Hook

Suddenly, I heard a creaking noise outside my bed room. Then I slowly got out of bed and sneaked a peak,
as I opened the door it made a 'screekey' sound, "Eerrrrr........"

When I opened the door "Nothing," I whispered, but then I heard the kitchen door quietly close, so I went to go investigate. As I opened the kitchen door, I felt a bit worried, but then I saw a shadow, now I was really worried. It was just standing there moving it's elbows. So I looked around the corner......... and it was my little brother stuffing his face into a chocolate cake.

Looking Backward- looking Forward

Last term I really enjoyed participating in camp because I got to experience new activities and I got to know my camp mates really well. I also liked softball because I got to be our year 7 teams captain. We came second out of all the year 7 teams in the Eastern Zone tournament.

What I disliked about last term was Technology at Tamaki College. I didn’t like it because we didn’t get to do a lot of things in science that I thought we were going to do.

This term I really hope the people in my group at Tamaki College will be more sensible and more mature. Also this term I am going to try new things that I hope I really enjoy.

Great Inventions and Inventors

Back in 1888 Karl Benz invented the modern car in Germany.
The car Karl Benz invented had three wheels, no covering, did not have a steering wheel, 2.5 horse power and the design was different very different to today's cars.

The cars now have four wheels, covering around the car, a steering wheel, and a better design. We also have engines with much greater horse power.

Karl Benz was a great inventor because I don’t think that I could ever create anything like he did.
I bet If Karl Benz didn’t invent these machines we may not have any cars now.

(adverb) (verb)
Furiously ran the Cheetah towards it’s prey.

Soccer, Soccer,Soccer!

Hi there, my name is Jarna and my favourite sport is soccer. I have been playing soccer for 7 years now, and I think that’s awesome! I really love playing soccer because it’s tons of fun but quite tiring after a while. I have been playing this sport ever since I was five years old and after my first match I really loved it.

My soccer season hasn’t started yet, but I will start playing my first pre-season game in two weeks on a Saturday. I can’t wait till I start soccer. I have a quick question for all you viewers, “ What is your favourite sport?”

The Fantastic Camp T.C

This year for the first time, team five was going to be having camp! This year our camp was called Take Charge. Our camp is called this because we are going to be taking charge by doing different things by ourselves for most of the time, I knew it was going to be awesome!

The groups and teachers for camp are Responsibles-Mrs Langitupu, Respectibles-Ms Va’afusuaga, Motivators-Mrs Nua, Thinkerz-Mr Barks, Carerz-Ms Tito, and my group ‘PARTICIPATORZ-Mr Harris. My team leaders were Helen Tui and Charm, I think they had done a great job as leaders.

I really had a great time doing all the activities at camp T.C, but the most activities that I enjoyed was kayaking with Mr Burt and some other helpers and the Dunker with Brooke from Rock Up. I really had a great time at camp and I can’t wait till the next one!

Tamaki Reflect

Yesterday Pt.England Intermediate walk down to Tamaki College for Technology. Some of the students were mucking around but I wasn't. As soon as we got there we had to sit and wait for our teachers, some of us had to wait a long time because the teachers had forgotten about us!

At Tamaki the area of learning that I am doing this term is SCIENCE! In science our teacher is Mr.Duwan. The stuff that we learnt about in science were living and nonliving things. It was very interesting because I never thought that plants and trees are actually living.

I thought it was very cool in Mr.Duwan's class because we learnt lots of interesting things. I can't wait to go back to Tamaki college.

The Beach Trip

“Yes were here,” I shouted as I got out of the car and onto the sand. As I got into the water it was freezing! The waves hit me so hard I got a fright as I nearly fell deeper into the water.

My little cousins were playing in the sand and as the gross seaweed touched them they were scared.

My brother and I had a swimming contest, I won the first match then he won the last match. When we got out of the water we found black sand. We were making sand castles with our little cousins and my Pop.

That was a lot of fun at the beach I had an awesome time with my family, I really hope we can go to the beach again real soon.
